Metrizability in Terms of a Weak Separation Property on a Product

Two properties, neither of which by itself is strong enough to imply, in ways obvious, normality in general, nonetheless, when imposed on X2, are enough to characterize, respectively, metrizability and stratifiability, provided X has embedded in it \omega+ 1 (cf. results of Katetov and Zenor).
