Metric Spaces via Domain Theory
by
Jimmie Lawson
Louisiana State University

For studying a variety of notions in the context of metric spaces such as iterated function systems and their corresponding fractals or measure and integration theory, it is most helpful to have a convenient computational framework at hand. In this talk we survey recent developments for embedding a metric space in a continuous directed complete partially ordered set (the objects of study in domain theory). We indicate how this containing structure provides close links between classical metric space theory and domain theory. We also discuss some applications to iterated function systems and measure and integration theory.
