A characterization for compactness

We prove a characterization for compactness: A Tychonoff space X is compact if and only if for any embedding into Y, with Y = \pi\alpha in A Y\alpha, every open U in Y containing X contains an open V such that X subset V subset U and V depends only on finitely many coordinates.
