We consider the relationship between the geometry of contact structures (nowhere integrable plane fields) on 3-manifolds and the dynamics of flows associated to such plane fields. This leads to applications involving the existence of tight contact structures associated to Anosov flows, as well as contact structures which are naturally fitted to a class of three-dimensional fluid flows.
