The Foundations of the Theory of Monotone Semiflows
by
Elliott Pearl
York University

The theory of monotone semiflows has been developed by Hirsch, Matano, and Smith and Thieme.

The theory involves imposing order preserving conditions on a continuous-time dynamical system to obtain structure and stability results. In this talk, I will discuss the current order preserving conditions and propose new conditions that suffice to develop most of the existing theory. I will describe set-theoretic examples to show that these new properties are significantly weaker than the currently studied properties (strong monotonicity and strong order preserving property).
