Hyperspaces of 2-dimensional continua
by
Michael Levin
University of Saskatchewan
In 1995 Levin and Sternfeld answered in the affirmative Kelley's problem by showing that the hyperspace (= the space of all subcontinua) of a 2-dimensional continuum is infinite dimensional.
Applying real valued maps with remarkable properties we obtain the following improvement of this result: A 2-dimensional continuum contains a 1-dimensional subcontinuum whose hyperspace is infinite dimensional.
