Restricted set addition in Abelian groups

I survey the existing and discuss several new results concerning the cardinality of {a'+a'': a', a'' in A,  a' =/= a''}, where A is a subset of the set of elements of an Abelian group G. In particular, I improve known estimates for G = Z and G = Fp and give first general estimate valid for an arbitrary G.
