Assessment Resource Banks in Mathematics: Digging for Buried Treasure where ``X" Marks the Spot.
by

NZCER
When testing a student's performance, the pattern of correct answers gives a measure of the students ability and what they have attained. However the ``X" that denotes a wrong answer often contains valuable information that helps the teacher to find out what a students misconceptions are. This in turn allows a remedy to be formulated. The talk will introduce the Assessment Resource Bank (ARB), how to access and use it. This will be followed by a discussion of the buried treasure located in wrong answers and how to use this diagnostic power to enhance both teaching and students' learning.
(This session will last 60 minutes and will be of particular interest to secondary teachers.)
