Finite Intervals in the Lattice of Topologies

The collection of topologies on a given set, ordered by inclusion, forms a complete bounded lattice. We discuss the problem of characterising the finite lattices which occur as sublattices or as intervals in such lattices, and in particular we address the question of whether every finite interval in any lattice of topologies is isomorphic to an interval in the lattice of topologies on a finite set.
