Matrix Arithmetic and Abelian Groups.

We establish a bijection between divisor classes of integer matrices and lattices. This gives an isomorphism between the algebra of arithmetical functions of matrices and an abstract Hecke algebra. We mention some interesting counting properties of subgroups of finite abelian groups, which arise as a consequence.
