On certain reduced products of modules: a universal- algebraic approach

Several problems related to reduced direct products of modules can be effectively studied in the more general context of universal algebra. We present here some illustrations of this approach, including the construction of a counter-example to an open ring-theoretic problem of Jensen and Lenzing.
