Dimension Theory in Asymptotic Topology

In the case of geometrically finite groups the Novikov higher signatures conjecture can be reduced to a dimension theoretical problem in the Asymptotic Topology which is parallel to the old Alexandroff problem on the equality between covering and cohomological dimensions.
