On characterizations of completely multiplicative functions

We survey characterizations of completely multiplicative functions. We note that the concept of discriminativity due to E. Langford [Amer. Math. Monthly 80 (1973), 411-414] sets nearly all the characterizations under the same roof, and we modify the concept of discriminativity so that one further characterization can be set under this roof.
