Three-dimensional unsteady computation was made for the melt flow in the production process of super-conducting material Y123 with a modified Czochralski method. Results of the studied cases reveal the importance of three-dimensional compu tation in the determination of stability conditions and the unsteady behavior of the melt flow. How to suppress the melt flow instability and the patterns of melt flow in some typical unsteady conditions were also discussed.
