The status of the ground state problem for quasilinear elliptic operators

We discuss various aspects of this problem, in particular, the existence and qualitative behavior of ground states, their symmetry, and uniqueness of solutions. A number of recent results will be considered, with special reference to the singular Laplace operator \Deltam u = \div(|Du|m-2Du).
