It is an open problem whether the 6-sphere admits a complex structure. Several years ago, Claude LeBrun proved that the 6-sphere does not admit a complex structure compatible with the standard (round) metric. Two years ago, during our last visit in Bilbao, we tried to convince Alfred Gray that we proved that the 6-sphere does not admit a complex structure compatible with any metric in a (certain) neighborhood of the round one.
