A Language-Independent Front End for COSY
by
Jens von Bergmann
Coauthors: Jens Hoefkens and Martin Berz

The code COSY INFINITY provides a large group of highly optimized tools, particularly for high-order multi-variable automatic differentiation, differential algebraic methods, Interval methods, the Taylor model approach, and Analysis over Levi-Civita fields. In the discipline of Beam Physics for which it was originally written, it represents the leading modern tool for the analysis and correction of nonlinear dynamics in particle accelerators. To make the tools easily accessible to a wide class of users, a language-independent interface has been developed that allows the use of the COSY objects and tools from C, C++, and FORTRAN 90. Emphasis is put on far-reaching platform independence, easy maintainability, and efficiency in capitalizing on COSY's internal tools.
