We consider equations of the form F(\zeta1, \zeta2, ... , \zetan)=0 where F is a polynomial with integer coefficients and the unknowns \zetai are roots of unity. We discuss some applications of this equation and an algorithm to solve it in case n=2. In that case one can also give a good upper bound for the number of solutions.
