A mathematical model for the limbic System

The limbic circuit, involving the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and certain subcortical structures plays a determinant role in the emotional activity and for understand psychopathologies like schizophrenia and sensitization to certain psychostimulants.

In this work, we constructed a non-linear network representing the interaction between the most important nuclei from the limbic circuit.

Several numerical and theoretical results are obtained about the dynamics of the network and the sensibility of the solutions are analyzed with respect to some parameters, which describe the activation ability from the nuclei.

In particular, the model allows analyzing different activities of the circuit, associated with prevailing hypothesis from the neuropathology of schizophrenia
