Powers of a Certain Matrix and Fibonacci Numbers

We discuss generalizations of problem P10735 in the May 1999 issue of the American Mathematical Monthly: If L_n, respectively R_n are matrices with entries C_i-1^j-1, respectively C_i-1^n-j, prove that L_n² = I_n ( mod 2), respectively R_n³ = I_n ( mod 2), where I_n is the identity matrix of dimension n > 1.
