Some Results on Iteration Theory
by
Nilson C. Bernardes
Universidade Federal Fluminense

We shall present some results concerning two topics in Iteration Theory.

The first topic concerns iteration of polynomial maps in Kn (K = R or C). Our main theorem is a polynomial version of a result obtained by Enflo, Gurarii, Lomonosov and Lyubich for linear operators. This theorem also implies a polynomial version of a result due to Ptak. The strategy of the proof consists in combining a combinatorial reasoning with some tools from Algebraic Geometry, and can also be used to establish some other similar results.

The second topic concerns iteration of continuous maps in topological spaces. Our main theorem implies a negative answer to two problems proposed by M. Barge and J. Kennedy in the book Open Problems in Topology (edited by J. Van Mill and G. M. Reed).
