Non-confluence of the natural map of products onto symmetric products.
by

Let X be a nondegenerate continuum; the cartesian product of X with itself n times is denoted by Xn, and the n-fold symmetric of X with the Hausdorff metric is denoted by Fn(X). It is proved that for each n >= 3, the natural map from Xn onto Fn(X) is not k-confluent for any positive integer k.
