Numerical schemes based on various approaches are benchmarked for steady state solution of Euler equations, by comparing their efficiency on unstructured quadrilaterals using the finite-volume approach. The data structures, computations other than flux functions calculations and other aspects such as compiler switches, operating system and grids used are identical in the conducted comparisons. The schemes compared include the complete range from the classical schemes to some of the latest schemes: Self-Adjusting Hybrid Methods (Jameson scheme), Flux Vector Splitting Methods (van Leer, Steger-Warming, Zha-Bilgen, Kinetic Flux Splitting, Peculiar Velocity Upwind schemes), Flux Difference Splitting Methods (Roe, Godunov schemes), Low Diffusion Flux Splitting Methods (AUSM, AUSM-plus, AUSMDV schemes), Convective Upwind and Pressure Split Methods (CUSP, CUSP-WPS), Total-Variation Diminishing Methods (MUSCL approach). Simulation of various test cases has been conducted for three different freestream Mach numbers (subsonic, transonic, and supersonic) on three different meshes (coarse, medium, and fine). Normalized convergence histories for three different Mach numbers are also studied using the various flux functions. Additional information regarding verification techniques and computational resources is presented.
