Generalizations of Cesaro means and poles of the resolvent
by

An improvement of the generalization-obtained in a previous paper by the author-of the uniform ergodic theorem to poles of arbitrary order is given. In order to answer a natural question suggested by this result, an example of a bounded linear operator T, such that \frac1n2 Tn converges uniformly to zero, the sum of the range and the kernel of 1-T is closed and 1 is not a pole of the resolvent of T, is also constructed.
