It is known that generalized filters (= bounded meet-semilattice homomorphisms into a frame) in a frame are more suitable than classical filters to study convergence in frames. Using the adjointness between the category of bounded meet-semilattices and the category of frames, we construct the strict extension of a frame L associated with a set of generalized filters on L and show that category theory describes succinctly how the set of filters determines the structure of the strict extension. This is joint work with B. Banaschewski.
