The Submodule Structure of Specht Modules for 2-part Partitions

We present a recent (1999) result by Kleshchev and Sheth on the submodule structure of of Specht modules of 2-part partitions for the symmetric group. This work builds on results in Sp(2n) and GL(n) by A.M. Adamovich (1986-1992). An easy corollary shows that the socle of such a Specht module is always simple. Applications will be discussed briefly.
