Blow-up of solutions of semilinear hyperbolic equations in one space dimension

It is well known that solutions to nonlinear Cauchy or mixed problems are not, in general, global in time. In this talk we discuss a class of semilinear perturbations of the d'Alembertian in one space dimension and describe results on maximal influence domains on which solutions to Cauchy or mixed problems exist.
