Asymptotic Expansion of the Heat Kernel and Functional Calculus

We show how the asymptotic expansion for the heat kernel of certain elliptic differential operators changes under the influence of functional calculus. Problems of this type arise in connection with cut-offs in the Connes-Chamseddine model.
