Covering axioms, directed GF-spaces and quasi-uniformities

Characterizations of covering properties (paracompactness, compactness, metacompactness, etc) in terms of directed fractal structures are given. These characterizations suggest the introduction of the concept of co-Lebesgue quasi-uniformity (each open covering has a refinement of the form {U-1(x):x in X } for some entourage U of the quasi-uniformity) and related concepts, which are studied. These properties are also studied for quasi-pseudometric spaces.
