We introduce the category of locally convex approach spaces which naturally arises if one wants to make numerified categorical constructions out of Banach spaces. We also indicate intresting relations with Pumpluen's totally convex spaces by showing that they also arise as Eilenberg-Moore algebra's for duality functors in our setting.
