Compactness for subsets of R in the absence of the axiom of choice

It is known that - assuming the axiom of choice - for a subset of R it is equivalent to be compact or sequentially compact. This fails to be true in the absence of the axiom of choice. In this talk we will discuss the set theoretic status of this equivalence as well as of other related implications.
