In Partial Diallel Crosses(PDC), the reciprocal crosses are oftenly ignored assuming that there are no maternal effects or reciprocal differnces but the presence of maternall effects/reciprocal effects have been reported in many species of plants and animals. Therefore in the present paper, partial dialle crosses plans that allow investigation of maternal effeects and at the same time provide estimation of general and specific combining abilities of participating lines have been given. The Partial Diallel Crosses(including reciprocal crosses based on two associate class association scheme have been taken for estimating reciprocal effects.
Further, instead of repeating a Complete Diallel Cross(CDC) as in Griffing(1956), the CDC plan with v(v-1)/2 crosses alongwith a PDC has also been proposed for estimating reciprocal effects. The circulant plans have also been developed for estimating reciprocal effects. The methods fo estimating of g.c.a. and reciprocal effects and their sum of squares have been given. The above methods will be very useful in hybrid breeding programme to be adopted by plant and animal breeders.
