Octree based Domain Decomposition for Elliptic Problems
by
Christhop Zenger
Institute of Informatics, Munich University of Technology , Germany

Octree based grids combine in some sense the simple structure of equidistant, orthogonal grids with the possibility of adaptive refinement which is usuallly only available for unstructured grids. Moreover , octree based CAD tools are compatible with the grid wich simplifies the definition of complicated domains. Coarsening schemes for multigrid algorithms are also constructed in a straightforward way. We show in addition that the standard multigrid scheme can be extended in such a way that the good rate of convergence is maintained als for the convection diffusion equation in case of convection dominated (possibly recirculant) flows.
