Decoherence Functions for Quantum Mechanics
by
J. D. Maitland Wright
University of Reading, READING, ENGLAND

Gell-Mann and Hartle proposed a generalised quantum theory whose basic ingredients are 'histories' and decoherence functions.

This may be modelled by representing 'histories' by projections in a von Neumann algebra and the decoherence functions by certain complex valued functions defined on pairs of projections.

The focus of this talk will be on the interesting mathematical questions which arise. The physics content will be less than epsilon, where epsilon is very small.
