Signals from some advection-dispersion mechanisms

The concentration signal of a solute transported in a fluid stream from an injection site is analysed. The effect of the simple dispersion mechanism provided by laterally-varying fluid speed is compared with the case where some axial or lateral diffusion is included. How much information can be gained about the source by reading the downstream signal?
