by

Road surface data on New Zealand's state highways is collected each year. Typically there is a measurement for every 10 or 20 metre section of road. The data includes roughness, rutting, and skid resistance. The measurements are used for scheduling maintenance and for developing models of the deterioration of road surfaces. This paper will describe some statistical analyses of this data and some of the difficulties encountered in doing these analyses.
