Behaviour of p-values under point, one-sided and interval hypotheses
by
Graham McBride
NIWA, Hamilton, NZ
The p-value for a test of a one-sided hypothesis is often very close in value to the posterior probability for that hypothesis. In testing a point hypothesis these probabilities are seldom close in value. So when does a p-value for an interval test approach its posterior probability? That question is addressed via examinations of intervals of various sizes.
