Rank Tests in Analysis of Images in Palette-Based Format
by
Olena Kravchuk

In video streaming of palette-based images, one has to test the hypothesis that the colours in two images have the same distribution, against the alternative hypothesis that the underlying distributions are different. In this talk, we discuss how the Wilcoxon rank-sum test can be applied to this problem. We also show the importance of the treatment of ties in the test and illustrate the conclusions with visual examples. Some potential applications of other rank tests (f.e, Siegel-Tukey test) are also considered.
