by

The Galois theory of commutative separable algebras over commutative rings is a paradigm of Galois theory in categories. We review this Galois theory of commutative rings and the similar Galois theories for differential rings and difference rings and consider to what extent the latter two can also be subsumed under categorical Galois theory.
