Logical aspects of span and chainability

This talk reports on attempts to solve the problem whether continua with span zero are chainable by model-theoretic means. Thus far these attempts have failed but they have yielded further insight in the structure of certain subcontinua of betaR and in the complexity of zero span and chainability.
