The Casson Invariant Conjecture
by
Walter Neumann

Coauthors: Jonathan Wahl

The Casson Invariant Conjecture asserts that when a three-dimensional homology sphere \Sigma is the link of a complete intersection complex surface singularity, the Casson invariant of \Sigma is one-eighth the signature of the Milnor fiber. Part of the interest of this conjecture is the suggestion that the Milnor fibre is a natural (topological) coboundary for \Sigma. This talk will survey some recent progress on and extensions of this conjecture.
