Wage and employment conditions of rural labourers in Allahabad districts

ABSTRACT Wage and Employment Condition of Rural Labourers in Allahabad Districts Present paper is a chapter of my Ph.D. thesis titeled “The impact of socio economic factors upon work and wages of rural labour in India-A case study of Allahabad district” under the supervision of Dr. G.C. Tripathi, Reader(Economics) Allahabad University, Allahabad In the present paper we analyse the wage and employment condition of rural labourers in Allahabad district. The specific objectives such as: the problem of under employment and low wages for rural labours in Allahabad District, the wage discrimination by sex wise and age wise among rural labours in Allahabad and the future of employment opportunities for rural laborers in Allahabad and to propose a strategy for economic and social betterment of rural labourers, which are based on the hypothesis that, maximum of the agricultural labourers is working on farms due to their backward social and economic conditions, a very important impact of worst socio-economic conditions of rural labourers on their work and wages, the enough discrimination in wages of rural labourers and the social welfare schemes for rural labourers run by government are very effective.
. The present study is based on multi-stage purposive sample survey method. By tabulating the data on the basis of income, assets, sex wise/age wise wage, sex wise/age wise employment days, consumption expenditure etc… of rural labourers we analyse above mentioned objectives.
