Steady or unsteady evaporation on a plane condensed phase have been investigated by many authors on the basis of the continuum kinetic theory. Here, the gas flow is considered on the basis of the discrete models for the Boltzmann equation. The formation and the propagation of disturbances, in an initially uniform gas bounded by its plane condensed phase in nonequilibrium with the gas, are investigated in detail when the evaporation is taking place from the condensed phase. The results are obtained by numerical approaches. Four types of unsteady solutions are yielded. The conditions relating macroscopoc variables at infinity and on the condensed phase which allow a steady solution are also yielded. The so-obtained solutions are in very good agreement with those given by continuum models, even if discrete models with very few velocities are used.
