Cyclically connected neural networks arise in several regions of the brain. It is believed that they provide possible mechanisms of generation of multistable and oscillatory activity.

In this talk a mathematical model for neural networks is presented consisting of a system of nonlinear delay differential equations. Mathematical analysis yields conditions for the existence of multistable steady states and periodic solutions in cyclically connected neural networks. Computer simulations indicate that the interaction of several neural networks connected cyclically can generate complex dynamic behavior.
