On a problem of Hartman and Wintner for difference equations
by

Coauthors: Leonid Shuster (Bar-Ilan University, Israel)

The equation (1)  \Delta(rn-1\Deltayn-1)=(qn+\sigman)yn,  n >= 0 is regarded as a perturbation
of (2)  \Delta(rn-1\Deltazn-1)=qnzn,  n >= 0, where the latter is nonoscillatory at infinity. The sequencies  {rn}\inftyn=0,    {qn}\inftyn=0 are assumed to be real-valued, rn > 0 for all  n >= 0, whereas {\sigman}\inftyn=0 is complex-valued. A problem of Hartman and Wintner regarding the asymptotic "integration" of (1) for large n by means of solutions of (2) is studied.
