Secondary flow in a curved open channel is a difficult and important topic, which is related to many engineering problems such as scouring and sedimentation in rivers. In this study, the experimental investigations have been carried out in an 1800 bend of an open channel using a two-channel Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA) in order to improve the understanding of secondary flow structure in such a channel. A numerical simulation of the same flow conditions has also been performed using a well established, commercially available software package. Results from the two models are compared to find the correlation between them.
