by

Hyperidentities of a variety V are identities of V which also hold in an additional stronger sense. They were first studied by Walter Taylor in a 1981 paper. A variety is called solid if all its identities also hold as hyperidentities. This talk will give an overview of the study of hyperidentities and solid varieties, particularly for varieties of semigroups, over the last 20 years.
