Congruence lattices, similarity type, and congruence lattice of a subalgebra
by
William A. Lampe
University of Hawaii

We will survey the topics in the title, mentioning a few open problems and new results. Our survey will start with Walter Taylor's contributions to congruence lattice representations and similarity type. The survey will end with a discussion of the state of the problem of characterizing the pairs (Con(A), Con(B)) where B is a subalgebra of A. The connection in the middle is the need for understanding congruence lattices of algebras having a one element subalgebra.
