A variation of the WKB approximation and its application to Jacobi polynomials

We derive a variation of the WKB approximation for solutions of the equation y'' = p(x) y . The perturbation terms are obtained by absolutely and rapidly convergent resolvent series. This approximation is applied to the Jacobi polynomials Pn ( \alpha, \beta) (x) on [1, \infty) for large values of \alpha, \beta and n . It does not use Bessel functions or any other special functions.
