Sharpening Two Data Mining Tools with Genetic Algorithms

Genetic algorithms are powerful optimization techniques that are beginning to find their way into statistical applications. In this presentation, we examine how genetic algorithms can be used to improve the performance of two important tools in data mining, classification and regression trees for data modeling and the minimum volume ellipsoid (MVE) for outlier detection.
